H.W. Klein Midcentury Recliner Restoration

Another stunning designer Midcentury chair has found its way to my studio. Lucky me! I always appreciate the opportunity to get my hands on such beautiful, simple designs.

Before, the chair’s latex foam had disintegrated into a fine dust which had settled into the lower portion of the back.

Stripping it down created a great mess, and revealed the frame of the chair. Essentially, the chair is a molded styrofoam/resin attached to a hardwood base.

The chair is hand stitched around the entire perimeter.

Choosing the the right fabric becomes very important for authentic designer pieces. Not only does the fabric have to have the correct “stretch” in order to pull around the curves, but it should be sympathetic to the era.

The client’s choice for this chair is Hallingdal by Kvadrat, in the colourway 590.
